چکیده

Volumetric CT [1], or spiral CT, has been successfully used to examine thoracic blood vessels such as the pulmonary arteries for emboli [2], to image the heart after bypass graft surgery [3], and to assess for aortic vascular disease [4]. The use of spiral CT to examine venous structures in the thorax and upper limbs has not, to our knowledge, been previously described. Full assessment for potential thrombus in the superior vena cava or a major tributary in a patient in whom malignant tumors are of primary concern would normally require not only contrast-enhanced thoracic CT but bilateral upper extremity phlebography. Such an approach would entail the use of large amounts of iodinated contrast media and multipIe departmental resources. We report a case in which we used spiral CT with three-dimensional reconstruction to generate phlebographic images of subclavian vein thrombosis.

Application of 128-slice spiral CT combination scanning in the diagnosis of embolisms in pulmonary arteries and lower extremity veins

The aim of this study was to evaluate the significance of using multi-row spiral computed tomography (CT) to scan for pulmonary artery thrombosis and lower limb deep vein thrombosis (LVT) in patients with suspected LVT. A total of 110 patients underwent a contrast-enhanced spiral CT inspection of the pulmonary artery and lower extremity veins. Three-dimensional digital image processing, includi...

Superior vena cava syndrome arising from subclavian vein port catheter implantation and paraneoplastic syndrome.

Central venous thrombosis is an important complication of venous catheterization. We presented a 49-year-old male patient who developed massive central venous thrombosis causing superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome after placement of a right subclavian vein port catheter. The patient had inoperable gastric cancer for which he had been receiving chemotherapy for two years. He had a six-month histor...

Vascular TOS—Creating a Protocol and Sticking to It

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) describes a set of disorders that arise from compression of the neurovascular structures that exit the thorax and enter the upper extremity. This can present as one of three subtypes: neurogenic, venous, or arterial. The objective of this section is to outline our current practice at a single, high-volume institution for venous and arterial TOS. VTOS: Patients who...

Delayed thrombosis of left internal jugular vein and left subclavian vein: complication related to drainage of left superior vena cava.

OBJECTIVES To present a complication which occurred in relation to drainage of left superior vena cava. METHODS A 25-year-old patient underwent intracardiac repair for Tetralogy of Fallot. Left superior vena cava was present. It was drained by insertion of a left ventricular sump vent catheter via coronary sinus. The immediate postoperative period was uneventful. The patient presented on the ...

Mediastinal B-Cell Lymphoma Presenting with Jugular-Subclavian Deep Vein Thrombosis as the First Presentation

Jugular venous thrombosis infrequently could be secondary to malignancy and has seldom been reported secondary to mediastinal large B-cell lymphomas. The postulated mechanisms are mechanical compression that leads to stagnation of blood in the venous system of the neck and/or an increase in the circulating thrombogenic elements that could cause venous thromboembolism as a paraneoplastic phenome...
